Women in the Woods!

One of my favorite projects is Women in the Woods hosted by Louisiana Tech University! It’s a weekend of fun that teaches high school girls all aspects of forestry. From soil testing, to habitat evaluation, to smores… they learn lifelong skills and build the confidence to smoothy navigate through a male dominated work force.

The 2027 Women in the Woods will be it’s 4th year! It is hosted annually at the Louisiana Ecological Center (LEAF Center) in Florien, LA.

I'm grateful for placing 1st in the undergraduate poster contest at the SAF Gulf State conference in Bossier City, LA! 2025 Louisiana Forestry Association Meeting in Lake Charles, LA It was a pleasure touring Weyerhaeuser's OSB mill in Arcadia! 🪵🏡 Got to tour the LaSalle Sawmill! Ended off the week strong by visiting Roy O Martin! Got to see some herbicide work, longleaf stands, and a large town ant colony! 🐜🌲🪵 Doing survival counts for longleaf seedlings!! Our data will help decide what management method will be used on the tract! 🌲 We toured the IFCO nursery and saw baby longleafs! It's awesome to see genetics at work to provide timber for the Gulf! Got to tour the Southern Forest Heritage Museum and Research Center! This hidden gem is located in Longleaf, Louisiana and is known to be the nation’s most complete historic sawmills with a bunch of steam-powered logging and milling equipment. Had a good time doing a prescribed burn at Hodges Garden! 🪵🧑‍🚒
